From Military to Mission: How Veterans Enrich Our Team at Xcelerate

By: Jim Dunford, Vice President, Xcelerate Solutions

Cheryl Madolev, Senior Analyst, Xcelerate Solutions

As a Vice President (VP) for Xcelerate Solutions, I’ve had the privilege of working with some truly remarkable people. One of the most profound aspects of my role is witnessing the different backgrounds and experiences that each team member brings to our organization. Recently, we had a moment that truly underscored the value of this diversity: Cheryl Madolev, a Senior Analyst on Xcelerate Solutions’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team in Clarksburg, West Virginia, recently deployed with the National Guard as a Public Affairs Mass Communications Sergeant.

As a Navy veteran myself, this event strikes a particularly personal chord. Having spent 20 years in uniform, I understand the commitment and sacrifice involved in military service. So, when we prepare to say goodbye to one of our own who is stepping away to serve, I find myself reflecting deeply on what this means — not only for our company, but for the nation.

The Value of Service

Service in the military is not just about wearing a uniform; it’s about embodying the values of discipline, leadership, resilience, and teamwork. These qualities are cultivated through rigorous training and real-world experience, and they translate seamlessly into the workplace. For Cheryl, these are the same attributes that make her a standout colleague. Her dedication to her role at Xcelerate is nothing short of exemplary, and I know that she will bring the same level of commitment to her National Guard duties.

Hiring veterans isn’t just about honoring their service, but also recognizing the incredible value they bring to an organization. Veterans develop unparalleled leadership skills, honed by working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and skill sets. They understand the importance of both taking charge and collaborating with others to accomplish their mission.

Military service often involves navigating complex situations and making critical decisions under pressure — experience that translates into strong problem-solving skills that are invaluable to our company. Adapting to changing circumstances and recovering from setbacks is a hallmark of military training. Veterans bring a level of resilience that can help companies navigate challenges and thrive.

The dedication and work ethic developed in the military are second to none. Veterans understand the value of hard work and commitment to excellence.

At Xcelerate, we believe it’s our responsibility to support and respect the choices of our team members, especially when they involve serving our country. Our commitment to hiring veterans extends beyond mere recruitment; we aim to create an environment where they can excel and contribute meaningfully. We offer flexible work arrangements to accommodate the needs of our military employees and provide ongoing support to help them balance their dual responsibilities. It’s a small part of our broader commitment to fostering a culture of respect and appreciation for those who have served.

As we continue to build our team at Xcelerate, I encourage others to recognize and embrace the unique strengths that veterans offer. Hiring and supporting veterans is not just a matter of giving back; it’s about enriching our organizations with individuals who embody the very best of commitment, capability, and character.

Cheryl, thank you for your service and your contributions. We look forward to your safe return. Your departure is a reminder of the broader context in which we operate — one where service to our country and to each other is paramount.

To all veterans out there, your service is deeply appreciated, and your skills are highly valued. Here’s to honoring the past and investing in a brighter future for our veterans.
